![]() Fans will still be able to watch new episodes of "One Tree Hill" this fall on the CW. Other shows that will continue to air include "7th Heaven," "Gilmore Girls," "Supernatural" and "Smallville." |
The WB can't be discussed without mentioning two of our generation's most defining television series, "Dawson's Creek" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." "Dawson's Creek," which was the final program the WB chose to air on Sept. 17, basically brought every teen and preteen into instant adulthood, along with its wise-beyond-their-years cast of angsty teens. Along with one of the most critically acclaimed series of all time, "Buffy," "Dawson's" created some of Generation X's biggest stars, including Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Michelle Williams, James Van Der Beek, Alyson Hannigan, Seth Green and, of course, Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Other shows that hold a special place in pop culture history include "Felicity," "Angel," "Charmed," "Popular," "Roswell" and "Everwood." And one mustn't forget about laughable flops like "Tarzan," "Summerland," "Grosse Pointe," "Zoe" and "Young Americans." However, whether the shows were quickly cancelled or became huge hits, the WB rocketed some of Hollywood's most celebrated young actors into stardom: Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, Selma Blair, David Boreanaz, Amanda Bynes, Leslie Bibb, Kate Bosworth, Ian Somerhalder, Tom Welling, Rose McGowen and the Waynes Brothers. Oh, and don't forget the WB's poster boy, Chad Michael Murray, who starred in "Gilmore Girls," "Dawson's Creek" and "One Tree Hill."
A recent issue of "Entertainment Weekly" wrote that the WB presented viewers with some of television's most fond memories. These memorable TV moments include Buffy killing Angel at the end of the second season, Dawson's blunt conversation about masturbation with Joey in the pilot episode, Felicity cutting of all her infamous curly locks thus propelling the series to cancellation, and the scandal behind Shannon Doherty leaving her series, "Charmed," due to fights she had with co-star Alyssa Milano.
Although we bid The WB farewell into the TV land graveyard, please refrain from shedding tears; the CW will be airing new episodes of a few of The WB's last great shows. Catch "7th Heaven," "Gilmore Girls," "Supernatural," "One Tree Hill" and "Smallville" this fall on the CW.
"What are we going to do now?" were the last lines spoken on "Buffy" on the show's finale by little sister Dawson (Michelle Trachtenberg).
