Although Hagan's visit was brief, the event gave attendees the chance to meet other supporters and to discuss the rapidly approaching elections. The casual setting of the rally emphasized Hagan's down to earth attitude and image as a North Carolinian who is rising up to make a change.
Hagan has focused primarily on education, writing budgets to increase teacher pay and expanding early childhood education. She will continue to travel across North Carolina to rally voters before the elections Tuesday, Nov. 4.
If elected to the U.S. Senate, she stresses that she will not forget where she came from and will make North Carolina her primary concern, just as it has always been.
Despite the expensive nature of the campaigning process, Hagan is confident in the financial support of more than 21,000 individual donations.
In reference to the current financial crisis, Hagan's concern is that the predicament will become the responsibility of tax payers. She aims to avoid the tendency to "help Wall Street while simultaneously hurting Main Street."
Hagan also made it clear to the audience that she is undaunted by Elizabeth Dole's competing campaign. She stressed that her long term residence in North Carolina strengthens her efforts, unlike Dole, who transferred her voter registration from Kansas to North Carolina in 2001.
Before shaking a few hands and continuing her campaign across eastern North Carolina, Hagan declared to the audience that it is time to "give Liddy Dole some ruby red slippers so she can click her heels and go back to Kansas."
