Crowds of students wait in line in Union during prime lunch hours.

My name is Ryan Johnson and I am currently a senior film major here at UNCW. I have spent four grueling years here at the school and have always had a constant problem with the way the food system works here. When I have some time after class, typically around lunch time, my first concern is getting something to eat before I have to start the latter half of my day. Unfortunately, this process becomes too stressful and time consuming when I come to find that every eatery on campus is flooded with students attempting to grab a bite to eat before their next class. I have found this problem to be particularly persistent in the new Student Union. Don't get me wrong, the new building has been an essential asset as UNCW continues to grow; However, it still seems too small to fulfill the needs of all the students. The confined space between eateries make it hard to distinguish what students are in what lines, often discouraging students from the Union completely. While I do appreciate the efforts of the food court employees, if ever I am able to make my way to the front of the line, I still am enormously frustrated that the only time of day I have to myself to eat has to be inconvenienced with the large group of students with the same intentions. My purpose of this letter is to not complain about my own personal dissatisfaction with the dining crowds, rather to bring awareness to the situation as I know I am not the only one with this issue in mind. There needs to be some sort of new system or development in the way people are able to obtain their food of choice. Campus drive-thru anyone?

Yes, let's increase the pollutants on campus. That's always the answer. :) On a more appropriately related note, they just need to organize better and hire staff that is motivated and cares about the job they're performing. (Continued…)

I just transferred to UNCW and I have to agree, there are WAY too few options for lunch, and all of them seem to take forever. Campus needs more restaurants. (Continued…)

Someone should take responsibility for this and apply some organizational skills to help the students out. College is already stressfull enough without this. (Continued…)
