The festival was also a contest of best student film. The audience received voting ballots at the beginning of the event and was to fill out their top three choices. More than 200 votes were cast. First place was awarded to "Fester Weebles: County Pervert", directed by Lucas Boger and Bubba Noell. The comedy made the audience roar with laughter and proved sometimes less is more in the making of a film. Second place went to "Flush" directed by Taylor Gill. And third place went to "The Conflict 2: For a Few Scoops More," directed by Jon Applebaum. The Flicker Film Society had their say and voted "Fester Weebles: County Pervert" as their Flicker Pick for the evening.
One of the first films played that wasn't up for contest was "David" directed by David DiMattia. The 14-minute short film consisted of a young troubled man finding himself in a children's Halloween party. DiMattia is president and active member of Flicker Film and was excited about the turnout of the event.
DiMattia said, "[Reel Teal] gives students an outlet to showcase a lot of their work. If you're not making a film in a class, you don't really have anywhere to show your stuff. Flicker gives people an affordable way to submit their films to a film festival."
The next event at the Lumina Theater will be held by the Women's Resource Center and Film Studies. The event is called The Reel Girls Project. It will be Monday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m.
