Physical Graffeeti, UNCW's hip-hop dance team, is known for their performances at basketball games and as guest dancers at other dancing events. This year, they wanted an event that was completely for them. So on Thursday, April 24, Physical Graffeeti Presents: Battle of the Sexes, Rated PG.

The event will be held in Kenan Auditorium starting at 6 p.m. According to junior Michal Pierce, a member and event coordinator for Physical Graffeeti, they wanted an event to showcase themselves.

Pierce also said, "We wanted an end of the year thing, and for everyone to come see us."

They originally wanted to have a competition, but that idea didn't work out.

Pierce said, "Since the competition idea fell through, we decided to have a competition within ourselves."

She also said they've had the event in their heads for a while, but have really started planning it this semester.

They have around 15 to 20 dances planned to perform. The girls and guys perform some separately, and they also have combined dances planned.

Pierce said, "The guys try to show up the girls, and the girls try to show up the guys. Then we all come together to perform like one big family."

The UNCW Dance Team and the winners of Hawk It Out, Royal Flush, are also scheduled to perform. Two of the members of Royal Flush, junior Shamiah Harvey and sophomore Marion Barnes are also members of Physical Graffeeti.

The event will be a bittersweet one for senior Bernadette Ehmann. She is the one who put together Physical Graffeeti, which is in its second year at UNCW.

"It's really sad because it's her last year and her last performance," said Pierce about Ehmann.

Tickets for this event are on sale at Kenan Auditorium or can be bought from any member of Physical Graffeeti. It's $5 for students, faculty and staff and $8 for the general public. The money earned will help pay for Kenan.
