Naughty by nature?

Growing up in Greenville, N.C., I witnessed my fair share of interesting "costumes" on Halloween night. Last year, experiencing Halloween night for the first time in Wilmington, I was equally disturbed. Girls paraded through the downtown streets wearing costumes that left absolutely nothing to the imagination.
When did Halloween become the excuse for girls to dress up in costumes that begin with "Naughty?" Guys are strutting around downtown in creative costumes; whereas, on the other hand, girls are dressing up as Playboy Bunnies and sexy Little Bo Peeps. I have seen guys dressed up as a Blow Pop, disco ball, keg, tourist, Tootsie Roll; the list could drag on forever. My point is that guys are coming up with better costume ideas and not looking ridiculous like girls are on Halloween.
It serves no purpose to dress up as something that people don't even get. I saw a girl last year that had a plaid skirt on and that was it. I honestly had no clue who or what she was trying to create. That's why it's difficult to appreciate costumes like those. I can't even understand why someone would want everyone to stare at them with complete confusion and ask them the entire night what they were supposed to be again. October is now the month of a weeklong nudity competition.
Halloween is supposed to be scary, and yes, the costumes are supposed to appear scary, but these costumes are literally scary. Halloween costumes have completely evolved from lovely Cinderella to scandalous Cinderella. I mean really, what's next? Scandalous Hillary Clintons or naughty Oprahs?
Maybe this Halloween will prove me wrong; maybe costumes will step it up a notch. It would be spooky, no pun intended, if girls dressed up as something different this year, other than Playboy Bunnies.
