Issue date: 9/13/07 Section: Web Only Content
UNCW alumnus Jor-El Caraballo appeared on Williamsburg, Va. WVEC Channel 13 news in an interview about One-in-Four, a program educating college men and women about rape.
Affiliated with an organization featured in articles in both Oprah magazine and CosmoGirl, Caraballo has become a well-known name among students on campus. He is one of One-in-Four's newest tour educators, traveling the country this school year to different university campuses.
Majoring in psychology, Caraballo did a lot during his tenure at UNCW. A fraternity brother with Alpha Phi Alpha, resident assistant in Hewlett Hall and vice president of Mi Gente are a few of his accomplishments during his four years here.
He joined with the organization One-in-Four following graduation. He is now touring with the program across the country, educating college students on sexual assaults.
One-in-Four is a national organization established by a professor at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. It gets its name from the statistic that one-in-four college women have survived rape or attempted rape. The program has established chapters all over the nation.
One-in-Four focuses more on educating and informing men on what they can do when it comes to rape. The programs works on disproving myths about rape, and participants gauge themselves on how likely they are to rape someone via self-evaluation.
One-in-Four began an RV tour late August, and their first stop was at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio Aug. 25. The One in Four Tour will be coming to North Carolina briefly this month, stopping in Greenville to visit East Carolina University Sept. 24. No stops in Wilmington or at UNCW have been scheduled.
