After a rough start to the election process, Caitlyn Kaspar was finally named freshman class president. "We had to rerun elections due to some glitches discovered in the voting system," senior class president Brian DesRoches said. "It was really hard telling the freshmen that results were on hold and we would have to re-vote, but they all were great sports and campaigned just as hard, if not harder, the second go-around.
UNCW College Democrats hosted Walter Dalton, the democratic candidate for Lt. Governor of Wilmington in the Alumni Lounge of the Fisher Center Sept. 25. "Keep up the good work, keep up your voice and vote democratic," Dalton said. "Those things are key." The event was in a question and answer format and the lounge was in a circular formation so it created a comfortable atmosphere of individuals discussing politics together.
One of the aspects that is tiresome in college is the lack of direct hands-on practice to the course materials. I feel that leaving out the essential "how-to"s of academic theories and philosophy is akin to learning all about the theory of combustion engines but leaving still not being able to change a tire.
Guerilla Theatre, a group of local performance artists, gave its final performance of "Suburbia" at The Brown Coat Pub and Theatre's intimate stage Saturday night. The play, written by local playwright Eric Bogosian and directed by pub owner Richard Davis, is production number 36 and counting for Guerilla Theatre.
All young athletes grow up dreaming of one day meeting and interacting with their heroes in the professional sports world. Whether it be hitting batting practice with Derek Jeter at Yankee Stadium, catching a pass from Brett Favre in the end zone at Lambeau Field or playing horse with Michael Jordan at the United Center, everyone has their own special fantasy.
