SGA Elections taking place this week

Every spring ushers in blooming trees around campus, pollen infested cars, board shorts, sandals, the NCAA championship and politics here at UNCW. With the Student Government Association (SGA) elections in process students will once again have a chance to elect a qualified peer to represent the entire student body.

Elections will be held from Tuesday, March 27, to Thursday, March 29. Polls open at midnight on Tuesday, and students will be able to vote online for a number of positions in each class.

Candidates running for student body president include Megan Jelley, Daniel "Tango" Thorpe and Morgan Wyand. "I've met with all three candidates, and I think any of the three will represent the students well," current SGA President Katie Gurgainus said. "All are strong leaders."

Running for student body vice president is William Dennis and campaigning for senior class president is Christopher Faulkner. The junior class president candidates include Brian DesRoches, Ashley Gaddy and Janette Lavery. Mark Blackwell is running for sophomore class president and the College of Arts and Sciences Representative candidate is Ken Swarthout. All other positions are still available.

Polls will close on Thursday at 5 p.m. and immediately following will be the election results announced at 6 p.m. Results will be posted online on the SGA Web site and an official inauguration will be held in the Warwick Center Ballroom on April 17.
