I am a current student of UNCW and work in Hoggard Hall. I cannot afford to pay to park on campus (even if permits were available and they guaranteed a space). Like you, I must get to campus or be dropped or fired. This is a call-to-arms (the non-violent definition) for the student body. I plead that we unite and have all parking fees prohibited. If tuition funds are not enough, why not divert some funds from extracurricular activities? Which is more important? I simply want to go to class - to access something for which I have already paid. However, this simple desire to be in class--to learn and to profess my desire to join the ranks of my professors-- has a dark cloud hanging over it on a daily basis. Financial aid paid $350 in parking violations for me so I could register for class this semester.

Trouble has started again; I have received one ticket and with the second ticket was booted! This put my wife's job in jeopardy. The Seahawk news a story last semester that the system designed to pass out parking violations is spending more than it takes in. In other words, your tuition/tax money is paying people to walk around and charge you money! But it's not enough, as the parking permits are going up, so is tuition. I wanted more information, so I sent a "Freedom of Information Act" request to the parking and transportation office. Not even a week later, I was sent a notice that I have to go before the Dean (and miss work) to explain myself to her. Seahawks unite! Let Auxiliary Services know you are tired of being financially punished because of the necessity of driving. WAVE public transportation is not an option. We wouldn't be able to get to work or class before 8 a.m.
